CV NEWS FEED // The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) will hold its 2024 Fall Plenary Assembly in Baltimore from November 11 to 14. Public sessions, scheduled for November 12 and 13, will be livestreamed.
The gathering will open with remarks by Cardinal Christophe Pierre, the apostolic nuncio to the United States, followed by an address from Archbishop Timothy Broglio, president of the USCCB.
Although the final agenda is still in development, key topics include several initiatives and reports. These will cover updates on the collaborative work for Dignitas Infinita, the interim progress of Antiquum Ministerium regarding the ministry of catechists, and discussions around Laudato si’. The bishops will also draft guidelines for lay ecclesial ministry, review the 2025-2028 USCCB Mission Directive, and address the proposed 2025 budget. Three liturgical texts from the divine worship committee will also be up for action.
Additional agenda items include an update on migration, a summary of the 2021-2024 Synod of Bishops, and reports on the Eucharistic revival initiative and the 2024 National Eucharistic Congress. The bishops will also consult on the causes for beatification and canonization of Sister Annella Zervas of the Order of Saint Benedict and Gertrude Agnes Barber, a laywoman.
The bishops will vote on several leadership positions, including a new Conference treasurer and five chairmen-elect of committees. Those elected will serve as chairmen-elect for one year before beginning a three-year term in 2025. For those interested, the public sessions can be followed online via the livestream at www.usccb.org/meetings. The USCCB will also provide updates on social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Threads, and X (formerly Twitter), using the hashtag #USCCB24.
