CV NEWS FEED // Pope Francis canceled his Monday, September 23rd audience due to a mild flu, according to Vatican News.
The article quoted the Holy See Press Office’s announcement: “Due to a mild flu-like condition and as a precautionary measure considering the upcoming visit, the papal audiences scheduled for today are canceled.”
The article stated that Pope Francis has an Apostolic Visit to Luxembourg and Belgium scheduled from September 26-29.
Matteo Bruni, the director of the Holy See Press Office, stated regarding the Apostolic Visit that “for the moment everything remains exactly as planned,” Vatican News stated in another article.
The Apostolic Visit “follows in the footsteps of Pope John Paul II’s visits to the two countries in 1985,” Vatican News stated, in which the Pope beatified Belgian missionary Saint Damien de Veuster (Damien of Molokai) in Belgium.
Following the example of his predecessor, Pope Francis will meet students at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and the Université Catholique de Louvain. The visit corresponds to the 600th anniversary of the Université Catholique de Louvain.
Pope Francis will beatify Venerable Anna de Jesus during his visit to Belgium, in a Mass at the King Baudouin Stadium.
During Pope Francis’s visit to the countries, the Holy Father will address the topics of “peace, migration, the climate emergency, and the future for young people, while focusing on Church issues, including the role of Christianity in societies marked by secularisation, and the contribution of Christian education,” according to the Vatican News report.
Pope Francis recently returned from his apostolic visit to East Asia, which was the longest visit in his pontificate, as CatholicVote previously reported.
The Vatican Press office regularly encourages Catholics to pray constantly for the Holy Father, especially in these circumstances.
