CV NEWS FEED // Devotees of Our Lady of Guadalupe in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles are holding a fiesta to raise money for the annual pilgrimage, procession, and Mass in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe’s feast day in December.
The oldest religious procession in Los Angeles, Our Lady of Guadalupe’s procession was started in 1931 by Mexican Catholic refugees who had fled their country due to the Cristero War. A pilgrimage with images of Our Lady and St. Juan Diego, which begins October 29, 2024, precedes the procession.
The fiesta, called “Gran Tardeada Guadalupana,” takes place from 2 to 8 p.m. August 24 at St. Marcellinus Church, in Commerce, California. A $25 donation covers family entertainment and food.
The press release states that “live entertainment will include folkloric dances, Trío Azteca, Mexican singer Angélica Ramírez, DJ Alex. and Latin actors’ impersonators from Our Lady of Sorrows Parish in L.A.” Parishes donated the food and raffle prizes “so that all funds raised can go directly to cover the costs of the 93rd anniversary of the East Los Angeles Procession and Mass.”
The theme of this year’s procession and Mass is “Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mother of the Eucharist,” according to the Los Angeles archdiocese’s website.
“Trusting in the Word of God and in the message and tenderness of the Blessed Virgin Mary,” this year’s procession and Mass will be “celebrations of faith and hope that encourage the Family of God of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in its journey or path towards Him,” the website said.
