CV NEWS FEED // The relics of Saint Bernadette will embark on their first pilgrimage to Ireland this fall.
According to the news service for the Irish Catholic Bishops’ Conference, during the 13th Marian apparition at Lourdes, the Blessed Virgin Mary instructed Bernadette to tell the priests to build a chapel and invite people to come in procession.
Taking a fresh approach to this request, the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes will bring St. Bernadette’s relics and story to the people of Ireland. According to the news service announcement, the tour of St. Bernadette’s relics will offer the “once-in-a-lifetime” chance “to experience the special gifts and charisms of Lourdes in their diocese.”
Archbishop of Armagh Eamon Martin, Primate of All Ireland, shared in a letter, “The pilgrimage around Ireland of St Bernadette’s relics will be a source of hope, great joy and inspiration.”
“Together with my brother Bishops in Ireland, I look forward to welcoming the relics of St Bernadette to all parts of the island,” he continued. “I encourage you to take the opportunity to encounter the beautiful and inspiring person that St Bernadette was, and to hear the powerful message she was able to convey to the world from Our Lady.”
The relic pilgrimage will visit over 30 churches in the dioceses of Ireland. Details about the pilgrimage, including the schedule and locations to be visited, are available here.
