CV NEWS FEED // Planned Parenthood in New York has announced that starting Sept. 3 they will no longer provide abortions after 19 weeks due to financial issues.
The City reports that the abortion clinic will also temporarily stop providing “deep sedation” for inserting intrauterine devices and performing surgical abortions, though patients “will still be able to receive local anesthesia and moderate sedation during their procedure, meaning they will not be put to sleep but will be relaxed during the procedure.”
The Planned Parenthood Health Center on Bleeker Street in Manhattan is the only Planned Parenthood clinic in the state that offers 20-plus-week abortions or deep sedation.
Planned Parenthood spokesperson Senti Sojwal told The City that Planned Parenthood contracts an anesthesia vendor, covering 100% of the cost, but is “unable to do so any longer without sacrificing other essential patient services and community-centered programs throughout the state.”
The City also stated that Sojwal said Planned Parenthood “hopes to restore providing abortions at 20-plus weeks over the next six to 12 months.”
The abortion provider was accused of not telling patients that they no longer provided deep sedation, which Sojwal said was not true, telling The City that patients were notified that their options were local or moderate sedation “directly as they schedule their appointment.”
