CV NEWS FEED // Former President Donald Trump this week slammed the display performed by drag queens appearing to mock the Last Supper at the Olympics Opening Ceremony in Paris as a “disgrace.”
During an interview with FOX News’ Laura Ingraham that premiered on July 29, Ingraham asked Trump if he had “watched any of the Olympics,” to which Trump responded: “I thought that the Opening Ceremony was a disgrace, actually. I thought it was a disgrace.”
“The mocking of the Last Supper,” Ingraham continued, “Catholics and Christians across the globe are outraged.”
Trump repeated “I thought it was a disgrace,” as Ingraham spoke. He then added: “I mean they can do certain things, I thought it was terrible.”
The viral clip of the interview posted by FOX on its YouTube channel then cut to Ingraham asking Trump, “Can you say at the next Olympics if you’re present… you’ll have enough influence on the organizers that we won’t be insulting Christians worldwide?”
“We won’t be having a Last Supper as portrayed the way they portrayed it the other night,” Trump answered. “I just think, look, I’m for everybody… I’m very open-minded, but I thought what they did was a disgrace.”
Trump’s statement comes after the Opening Ceremony at the Olympics featured a group of people in “drag” appearing to parody Leonardo da Vinci’s famous “Last Supper” painting.
As CatholicVote reported, Catholic bishops around the world called for prayers and fasting in reparation for the display, and there have also been calls for an apology from the International Olympics Committee.
