CV NEWS FEED// The European Centre for Law and Justice (ECLJ) has created an online petition demanding a “public and solemn apology” from the International Olympic Committee for the blasphemous opening ceremony.
The petition stated that, “Such a deliberately sacrilegious message has nothing to do with sport, nothing to do with France, and certainly nothing to do with the Olympic Games.”
The petition also pointed out that the performance breached the Olympic Charter, “which forbids all religious and political propaganda within the framework of the Olympic Games,” adding that. “The International Olympic Committee cannot at the same time advocate respect for all religious beliefs and tolerate such a ceremony that seriously offends Christians.
Besides calling for a “public and solemn apology,” the petition also demanded “regulatory measures be taken to ensure that such scandals do not occur again.”
The ECLJ is an international, non-governmental, human rights organization, which is also non-profit and inspired by Christian ethics. The group “advocates in particular for the protection of religious freedoms and the dignity of the person at the European Court of Human Rights and the other mechanisms afforded by the United Nations, the Council of Europe, the European Parliament, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), and others.”
The ECLJ has worked on several other sacrilege cases, in France, Spain, and Lithuania.
