CV NEWS FEED// American Heritage Girls (AHG), a Christian girls’ scouting group, will attend the National Eucharistic Congress this week in Indianapolis.
AHG is a Christ-center leadership and character program for school-age girls, Christian News Wire reports. The organization encourages girls to discover their vocations and guides them “to a life-long identity in Christ.”
The girls’ scouting group is a Booth Sponsor at the National Eucharistic Congress, and will host a booth in the Exhibition Hall in the Indiana Convention Center.
AHG partners with Catholic and non-Catholic Christian churches, with a Trinitarian statement of faith, ending with the statements, “We believe that each individual is called to love the Lord our God with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength; and to love our neighbors as ourselves. We believe God calls us to lives of purity, service, stewardship, and integrity.”
AHG offers a Christian alternative to Girl Scouts, which Catholic dioceses like the Archdiocese of Kansas City have severed ties with due to the Girl Scouts’ donations to Planned Parenthood through the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, according to NPR.
The archdiocese also expressed concern with the Girl Scouts’ promotion of Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger and feminist authors Betty Friedan and Gloria Steinem.
The Girl Scouts also admit “transgender girls,” young boys who have socially “transitioned”, into their troops, according to their website.
AHG is endorsed by eight dioceses in the United States, including the Diocese of Lincoln, Nebraska, and the Archdiocese of St. Louis, Missouri. Bishop James D. Conley of the Catholic Diocese of Lincoln is the Episcopal Moderator of the Committee.
The AHG National Catholic Committee is the liaison between AHG and the Catholic Church, “promoting and providing for the growth and spiritual development of its Catholic members, in fidelity to the magisterium of the Catholic Church,” according to the AHG website.
Catholic members can earn patches like the Eucharistic Revival patch, the Respect Life patch, the Religious Vocations patch, and the Year of St. Joseph patch.
