CV NEWS // Impoverished people in Southwest Louisiana now have access to a traveling camper equipped with laundry and showers, thanks to a new initiative from Catholic Charities.
Catholic Charities of Southwest Louisiana recently began driving a travel trailer to different parishes, giving those in need the opportunity to shower and wash their laundry for free. The trailer has two showers, four washing machine and dryer units, laundry detergent, towels, and personal hygiene items.
The trailer is run by Catholic Charities’ homeless outreach coordinator, Alisa Stevens, who told local news station 7 KPLC that the trailer is a “judgment-free zone.”
“Maybe they don’t have hot water, maybe they don’t have a washing machine and a dryer, they’re low-income, and they’re having trouble making ends meet,” Stevens said. “Everyone is welcome.”
“Everyone is very appreciative of the services we are providing, and we are happy to provide it,” Stevens continued.
Priscilla Bouley, a woman who used the trailer’s services, told 7 KPLC that she is grateful for the trailer.
“It’s been a very good resource for us,” she said. “These ladies have been very good to me.”
“There are so many in the community I know who need this, and so far, it has been a success,” Bouley said.
