CV NEWS FEED // The Archdiocese of Los Angeles will host its annual celebration of Our Lady of Guadalupe with theater and music performances, a procession, and Holy Mass.
The festival will include performances of the play, “Virgen de Guadalupe, Dios Inantzin” on December 1-2, Mass and a procession through East Los Angeles on December 3, and a musical tribute followed by midnight Mass in Spanish at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Angels on December 11.
The musical tribute will feature guest singers who will perform “Las Mañanitas,” a traditional Mexican song honoring the Virgin Mary’s birthday on her feast day.
Featuring over 100 actors, singers, and dancers of all ages and diverse backgrounds from the Los Angeles community, “La Virgen de Guadalupe, Dios Inantzin” tells the story of how the Virgin Mary revealed herself to Saint Juan Diego.
The play was adapted by American playwright and actress Evelina Fernandez from a 16th century text called “The Nican Mopohua,” the official narration of the apparition.
The Archdiocese announced in its press release:
After nearly 30 visits of the images of Our Lady of Guadalupe and St. Juan Diego to parishes and cemeteries, starting at St. Catherine of Alexandria parish in Catalina Island in October, faithful in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles are preparing for December festivities to honor the Virgin of Guadalupe and St. Juan Diego that culminate with a tribute to the Virgin on the eve of her Feast Day.
“This year is the 492nd anniversary of the apparitions of Our Lady of Guadalupe! This is the true founding of America,” Archbishop José H. Gomez stated in the press release.
He continued:
The Virgin came to bring Jesus — not only to Mexico, but to all the Americas. This country, every country in North and South America, is under her mantle, under her loving protection and care. We thank God and we dedicate ourselves again to Mary’s mission of bringing Jesus to our country and all people.
