The name “Cordileone” means “heart of a lion.”
Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone is living up to his name.
And he should know that we stand with him.

Last week, the San Francisco archbishop informed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that her unyielding public support for abortion on demand with no exceptions placed her outside of communion with the Church.
She is not to present herself for Holy Communion in her home archdiocese until she “publicly repudiate[s her] advocacy for the legitimacy of abortion and confess[es] and receive[es] absolution of this grave sin in the sacrament of Penance.”
As I wrote then:
I have no doubt that Archbishop Cordileone’s action was not undertaken lightly. In his public statement he cites his own repeated attempts to reach out to the California Democrat. She has refused to respond.
And her refusal has only intensified since the letter became public.
She has persisted in receiving the Holy Eucharist – at a Washington, DC, parish – and even went on national TV to scold the archbishop, citing the Gospel of Matthew to justify her actions.
But this is not a battle against Nancy Pelosi.
In fact, Archbishop Cordileone is fighting for Nancy Pelosi. More than anything, he is praying and working for her eternal salvation.
Let’s not leave him alone in this fight.
He has shown great courage. And the American people deserve to know that Catholics have his back.
Nancy Pelosi’s soul matters. And every soul that she has scandalized or misled by her anti-Catholic advocacy matters. This is a spiritual battle for souls:
For our struggle is not against blood and flesh but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. (Ephesians 6:12)
Join with me in this great spiritual struggle and pledge today to pray for Archbishop Cordileone and his intentions.
