An evangelical global pro-life organization has urged Christians, especially Catholics, to work together across denominations to further the pro-life movement and more effectively protect unborn lives from abortion.
PassionLife remarked in a July 9 news release that denominations’ “respective theological differences” should not hamper their “joint effort and impact.” Instead, Christians, regardless of their beliefs, should work together as “collaborating co-belligerents,” the organization said.
PassionLife works around the globe as a mission partner for local churches and organizations, especially those in areas where abortion rates are extremely high. The organization offers training in Christian pro-life teaching, evangelization, and pro-life counseling to staff and volunteers at resource centers for women.
“When it comes to standing for life and rescuing the innocent from abortion, it’s both possible and vital that Catholics, Protestants, Evangelicals, Fundamentalists and Charismatics all work collaboratively to rescue mothers in a pregnancy-related crisis,” PassionLife President John Ensor stated in the release.
Ensor pointed out that all Christian beliefs share a common ground in the “ethical demands” of the Bible, allowing Christians of different backgrounds to effectively work together. He added that finding common ground gives PassionLife more energy and resources to see the pro-life movement through to its goal of ending abortion.
“For Evangelicals and Catholics working together, I always say, ‘Acknowledge the differences while striving for the same goal,’” Ensor said. “We have incredible common ground — we all believe that it’s morally wrong to intentionally kill an innocent child. That is enough of a foundation for us to answer God’s call to rescue the innocent (Proverbs 24:11) and to do it as effectively as possible.”
