According to the Catechism, “the ultimate end of the whole divine economy is the entry of God’s creatures into the perfect unity of the Blessed Trinity.” (CCC 260)
To help you get ready for Trinity Sunday this year and begin doing now what we are meant to do for all eternity, here are five beautiful quotations about the Holy Trinity.
ONE
“Now this is the Catholic faith: We worship one God in the Trinity and the Trinity in unity, without either confusing the persons or dividing the substance; for the person of the Father is one, the Son’s is another, the Holy Spirit’s another; but the Godhead of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit is one, their glory equal, their majesty coeternal.” – Athanasian Creed
TWO
“It is the whole Trinity who dwells in the soul that loves them in truth, that is, by keeping their Word! And when this soul has realized its riches, all the natural or supernatural joys that can come to it from creatures or from God Himself are only an invitation to re-enter into itself in order to enjoy the substantial Good that it possesses, which is nothing else than God Himself.” – St. Elizabeth of the Trinity
THREE
“In the Church, then, we find a magnificent epiphany of Trinitarian glory. Let us therefore accept the invitation which St Ambrose extends to us: ‘Rise, you who were lying fast asleep…. Rise and hurry to the Church: here is the Father, here is the Son, here is the Holy Spirit.’” – Pope St. John Paul II
FOUR
“The divine indwelling may be described as a special intimacy of God with the soul, producing an extraordinary knowledge and love of God. Only those who possess the divine indwelling are able to know God as God wants to be known; are able to love God as God wants to be loved….
We have the gift of the indwelling Trinity and should be the most happy people on earth. Our happiness consists in living out the indwelling of the Holy Trinity in our lives. Doing what? By loving or giving. If we are not happy it is because we are not generous enough in sharing. There is only one source of real unhappiness in the world and that is not doing or not doing as well as we should the will of God.” – Servant of God Fr. John Hardon
FIVE
“Today I was in heaven, in spirit, and I saw its inconceivable beauties and the happiness that awaits us after death. I saw how all creatures give ceaseless praise and glory to God. I saw how great is happiness in God, which spreads to all creatures making them happy; and then all the glory and praise which springs from this happiness returns to its source; and they enter into the depths of God, contemplating the inner life of God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, whom they will never comprehend nor fathom.
This source of happiness is unchanging in its essence, but it is always new, gushing forth happiness for all creatures. Now I understand St. Paul who said, ‘Eye has not seen, not has ear heard, nor has it entered into the heart of man what God has prepared for those who love Him.’” – St. Faustina
BONUS!
Take a listen to this ancient Trinitarian hymn:
All hail, adored Trinity!
All hail, eternal Unity!
O God the Father, God the Son,
And God the Spirit, ever One.
Three persons praise we evermore,
One only God our hearts adore:
In thy sure mercy, ever kind,
May we your true protection find.
O Trinity! O Unity!
Be present as we worship thee;
And with the songs that angels sing
Unite the hymns of praise we bring.
