CV NEWS FEED // The international pro-life ministry 40 Days for Life recently announced it has saved the lives of 25,308 babies, closed 161 abortion clinics, and converted 268 abortion workers since its founding in 2004.
Pregnancy Help News reports that the organization reached its 25,000 milestone in 2024. 40 Days for Life organizes 40-day perpetual prayer vigils at abortion clinics across the country, working with local churches and other faith groups. The ministry holds vigils in 1,700 and 65 countries.
Shawn Carney, president and CEO of 40 Days for Life, told Pregnancy Help News that after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, people’s interest in becoming leaders and volunteers for the organization soared.
“[Demand] was already high but it really reached levels of people basically saying they always thought about leading a 40 Days for Life campaign in their town, or bringing it to their town, but the overturning of Roe just propelled them that, ‘Hey, if I close my local abortion facility, there’s no federal government to stop me from doing that–this is a state issue,” he explained.
The organization has the strongest presence in pro-choice states, according to Carney.
“California is our largest state by far,” he said. “So, the more liberal the state, the more 40 Days for Life campaigns we have and the more impact we have.”
He also stated that the focus on liberal states is important because even if liberal lawmakers and activists push abortion, the facilities will close down when enough women choose life.
“And that’s what we focus on–the bottom line of an abortion facility. It’s why we work so closely with the local pregnancy centers,” Carney said. “They can celebrate abortion all they want, but if enough women choose life, then the abortion facilities will close.”
