CV NEWS FEED // The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) fired four employees from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for sending $59 million to luxury New York hotels in order to house illegal immigrants.
Fox News reports that the DHS stated it fired FEMA’s chief financial officer, a grant specialist, and two program analysts.
“Under President Trump and Secretary Noem’s leadership, DHS will not sit idly and allow deep state activists to undermine the will and safety of the American people,” the DHS stated.
On Feb. 10, Elon Musk, the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), wrote on his X account, “The DOGE team just discovered that FEMA sent $59M LAST WEEK to luxury hotels in New York City to house illegal migrants.”
Fox News reports that $19 million went directly to hotel costs, while the rest of the money covered services like food and security.
A New York City Hall spokesperson told Fox News that the state had received funds “through the past week” allocated by Biden’s administration to house and support illegal immigrants. New York City Hall also states that the funds were not part of a disaster relief grant.
Fox News reported in October that Speaker of the House Mike Johnson told the outlet that while emergency relief funding is separate from FEMA’s funds allocated for immigration, the organization should not be funding the border crisis.
FEMA partners with Customs and Border Control (CBP) and administers money to the Shelter and Services Program (SSP), which Fox describes as “a government-funded program that provides assistance and housing for illegal immigrants released into the U.S.”
