CV NEWS FEED // Almost 30 national pro-life organizations have called on Republican Speaker Mike Johnson and the pro-life members of Congress to protect crisis pregnancy centers in America.
The petition, summarized in a letter spearheaded by the Stanton Public Policy Center, comes in the wake of renewed attacks on crisis pregnancy centers from Vice President Kamala Harris and Democratic attorneys general throughout the country.
“It is clear if Kamala Harris became President, her Administration would do all in their power to close or restrict pregnancy resource centers and life-affirming clinics,” the Center wrote.
The Center added that Harris has also “investigated and harrased” pregnancy resource centers in California, as well as worked with and supported members of Congress who target the centers and call them “fake clinics.”
“Speaker Johnson, we are asking for you, and the pro-life members of congress, to ensure no anti-woman federal legislation would be passed which restricts or attempts to shut down pregnancy resource centers and life-affirming women’s clinics,” the Center wrote, adding:
Regardless of one’s position on abortion, it is critical our nation must stand with women who are facing unexpected pregnancies as we offer true choices and support.
The Center also provided Speaker Johnson with data on the number of women helped and supported by the targeted crisis pregnancy centers. According to the letter, there are more than 2,700 pregnancy resource centers and pro-life women’s medical clinics in the U.S. that have provided free services worth nearly $367.9 million to over 16 million patients.
The Center also stated that the clinics assisted more than 974,000 new clients in 2022, providing free services such as ultrasounds, women’s health care and education, and free products needed by new mothers and infants like baby clothes, diapers, and formula.
“Every woman who walks through the doors of these life-affirming centers and clinics is treated with dignity and equality regardless of their race, political views, religion, educational background or their economic situation,” the Center added. “97% of the clients served reported having a positive experience.”
The letter continued:
Speaker Johnson, it is critical in a post-Roe America that we offer women facing unexpected pregnancies these professional services and care to truly support their choices.
The letter was signed by major pro-life organizations, including Students for Life of America, Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, Priests for Life, the National Black Pro-Life Union, and Human Life Alliance.
Johnson has served as speaker of the House of Representatives since October 2023. He is a known pro-life advocate, speaking at the 2024 March for Life rally and asserting that “every human life has inestimable dignity and value” on his website.
