HOUSE CHAPLAIN LET GO Democrats are up in arms that House Speaker Paul Ryan has removed Fr. Pat Conroy, SJ, as chaplain for the House of Representatives. Democrats are suggesting that Rep. Mark Walker, R-NC, (who is also a Baptist minister) is anti-Catholic because he suggested that a chaplain should have a family. Walker told EWTN’s Jason Calvi that he isn’t anti-Catholic at all, and that his passing words about a chaplain having kids weren’t artful. “We’re looking for someone with familial experience — people who deal with families. SENATE 2018 President Trump calls on Sen. Jon Tester, D-MT, to resign after leading the charge against Veterans Affairs Secretary nominee Ronny Jackson. “The great people of Montana will not stand for this kind of slander when talking of a great human being,” said the president. Tester’s report alleged that Jackson was drunk on duty, but the allegations couldn’t be verified. “The Secret Service has no such record of any incident,” the Secret Service said in a statement. Jackson withdrew himself from consideration rather than having to defend himself against false allegations. READ |

SAINT OF THE DAY St. Pius V, who was born in 1504, joined the Dominicans at the age of fourteen; he was sixty-two when he was elected Pope. His reign, though short, was one of the most fruitful of the sixteenth century.
